2016 Life Members – Congratulations to Toni Couper & Shane Bullock

Updated: April 23, 2017

Life membership exists to recognise the valuable contribution of individuals to the current and future existence of the Narrabeen Rugby League Club.

It is therefore only to be awarded in exceptional circumstances. We congratulate Toni Couper and Shane Bullock on being presented 2016 Life Membership of the Narrabeen Rugby League Club at the Don Freudenstein Memorial Shield Day on Saturday 1 April 2017.

Toni Couper joined the club in 2007 when her son Zac started with the Under 6s. She soon took up the role of Registrar and Club Secretary. Over the years, Toni has worked tirelessly for the Narrabeen Rugby League Club volunteering sometimes up to 12-hours a week of her time from game day to attending the various Manly Warringah Rugby League meetings on behalf of the Committee. Toni says her passion for rugby league started as a 5-year old girl when her mum would drag her to the Manly games at Brookie Oval with her colouring in pencils and a rug to sit on the hill. In 2015, Toni was awarded the Manly Warringah Junior League District Volunteer for the huge contribution she makes at the Narrabeen club, accepting this award at the invitation only NSW Rugby League Awards Night. She wears many hats, wife, mum to 3-boys and is also a highly regarded Cardiac Speciality Nurse at Royal North Shore Private Hospital.

Shane Bullock
joined the club as a junior in 1982 and played his first A-Grade game for the Sharkies at just 17.  He continued to excel, when he was graded with North Sydney bears and played U21s and in 1995, he played Reserve Grade for the Western Reds in Perth in the ARL competition.  He later returned to Sydney, winning 2 A-Grade premierships for Narrabeen in 2007 and 2014 Grand Finals.  Shane says the 2007 premiership was undoubtedly the highlight of his career, playing alongside a true Narrabeen legend, Tony Balkin. Shane has continued to be involved in the club coaching different grades from U6 to U16s, Vice President 2016 Committee and more recently is the Assistant Coach to the 2017 A-Grade side. He is still playing rugby league, with the Shark’s A-Grade Masters team.
